What’s inside the course?
Introduction
In this module I’ll go over everything we’ll use in the course. I’ll demonstrate the qualities of acrylic paints using water and acrylic medium. I’ll also guide you through the “Finding Your Art Style” resource. You’ll come away with a detailed overview of your own unique abstract art style.
Getting Ideas - Step 1
The first thing you need to begin an abstract painting is an idea. You’ve got to start somewhere. In this module we’ll gather ideas and inspiration from magazines and books and collect them all in one place that you can refer to later for inspiration. This will become your Resource Library.
Loosening Up – Step 2
Now that you have some ideas it’s time to get into the studio and loosen up with some fun exercises. In this module we’ll be creating two exciting projects together — six black-and-white paintings and three with color. Painting ideas come more easily when you're loose and having fun.
Color Basics – Step 3
Now we’re getting into color. I’ll be explaining how to use a color wheel, focusing on Primary, Secondary and Complementary colors and the significance of each. I’ll also explain the basic properties of colors, which are Hue, Value, and Saturation. Using my unique Color-Mixing Charts you’ll find that exploring colors becomes both enjoyable and easy!
All About Design – Step 4
Now it’s time to understand what design is all about in abstract painting. The most important aspect of Design is making sure you have enough variety in your work! I’ll explain this using the resource “Design:Variety.” I’ll highlight three factors to keep in mind with variety: Shape, Color, and Value.
Creating Compositions – Step 5
We’re at the last stage and I’ll demonstrate two of the most popular composition styles: Horizontal and the Rule of Thirds. I'll show you step-by-step how to create both types and I'll give you my simple shortcut for using the Rule of Thirds.
Final Steps
Now that we have followed all five steps we’re going to sign, seal, and put the hardware on our paintings.
You’ve reached the exciting stage where you can display all the paintings you’ve created!
