I Challenge You
Finding inspiration can be challenging, whether it’s for painting ideas, journal ideas, or any other creative endeavors.
Most of the time we totally overlook the obvious. Something right in front of us.
Just the other day my husband and I took a motorcycle ride (yes, we have had a motorcycle for many years) to a nearby town because the weather was just so gorgeous here in the Pacific Northwest.
The sky was clear blue, no humidity, and a temperature of around 70 degrees. Perfect.
We got lost along the way so we had to pull over and put the address of the restaurant into our GPS again. While I was waiting for him to do that I was standing under the shade of a tree and just looked around at the beauty surrounding us.
And then something caught my eye. I don’t quite know what it was exactly, but I was fascinated by the texture on the group of thick white globs of whatever it was. So, I bent down and took a close up photo with my phone and zoomed in.
Very cool composition and texture. I loved it and so I saved it to an album in my photos titled “Inspiration.”
Another time I was sitting by the pool at my daughter’s house in Los Angeles and there was a black and white pattern on top of the water that caught my eye. I started snapping some photos of it and thought they were really cool.
It turned out that the sun was casting shadows from the gazebo rooftop directly on the water and the kids swimming created a ripple effect.
So here’s your challenge…. there are tons and tons of things right around you that you aren’t noticing that could feed your inspiration. And once you find one thing, more and more will come because you are NOTICING and OBSERVING.
And it doesn’t even have to be outside and in nature. It could be in your home, in your studio, a group of flowers, on your bookshelf…anything and anywhere. And if you zoom in really closely I bet you’ll find some unexpected goodies.
Go get started and have a blast.
