A Creative Way to Fill Your Sketchbook

Are you the type of artist who keeps a sketchbook where you can work out ideas or simply have a place to do something creative when you don’t feel like working on a painting?

Typically, I’m not that type of artist.

But… I just recently discovered a way to use my millions of collage papers that’s really satisfying, it’s quick and easy, and can turn into a piece of artwork I love and can sell.

I’m going to show you my entire process in a new YouTube.

I got a spiral-bound sketchbook with 30 pages and began to fill each one with one large piece of collage paper to start with.

I went through the entire 30 pages and put something down quickly before going back and adding smaller papers.

This can turn into something you can do on a daily basis or a weekly basis.

You could even fill one of these sketchbooks each month.

One month you could focus on a particular color, another month you could focus on black and whites, and another month you could focus on stripes or patterns.

It’s SO much fun and easy to do.

Having one large paper piece to respond to initially is extremely helpful because I don’t get bogged down with lots of little bits. Those come later.

For this project I used 140lb watercolor paper with perforations so if I create a page or two that I fall in love with then I can simply tear it out, frame it, and keep it as inspiration.

Or sell it!

I don’t know about you, but I love going into the studio and just playing around with shapes and colors and lines without having to get out all of my paints.

And you can work on a page easily if you only have 10 or 15 minutes.

Most likely you’ll get those creative juices flowing and you’ll be in there longer than you thought.

In this YouTube video I’m also going to share one of my favorite ways I keep all my collage papers organized, and it hardly takes up any space at all.
