Need a Pep Talk?

Sometimes it all comes down to our attitude.

Are you thinking that you don’t seem to be gaining any steam in your work?

Do you feel like your painting has to be perfect or you can’t put it out into the world?

Are you afraid to make a big mistake?

Are you afraid of what other people might say about your painting?

Are you afraid you aren’t a “good enough” artist?

These questions are several that I hear from my students all the time.

Doubt, fear, and perfectionism can kill the creative spirit.

As artists we have to rise above all of these thoughts that can stop our development and be brave and courageous.

The way to go from doubt to confidence, from fear to being fearless, and from perfectionism to acceptance is to get in touch with what our mindset and attitude are telling us.

Or rather… what are WE telling ourselves?

Yes, we are the ones who have control over these nagging negative thoughts that can not only ruin a painting but ruin a painting career.

If you’ve been in the arts or some sort of creative journey in any capacity, please pause and take note of what you are telling yourself.

Instead of allowing perfectionism, doubt, and fear to take hold, try and change your mindset and think of these things instead:

  1. Little by little, and step-by-step you’ll get to where you want.

  2. Give yourself permission to be free to experiment, to play, and to learn from your mistakes.

  3. By continuing in your art practice you are always moving forward and making progress.

And progress is GREAT.

If you want to watch a YouTube video where I talk in more depth about this subject then click HERE.

It’s called “Mindset Matters: How Attitude Affects Your Painting.”

Our own negative and judgmental thoughts can give us the biggest hurdle to overcome.

We have ALL experienced them.

I challenge you to spend the next week in any creative endeavor you choose and give yourself permission to experiment and play without any regard or thought of the outcome.

Sending you a world of love,

Adele
