Collecting Your Own Color Palettes
I just made a new YouTube video showing you my exact steps on creating color palette books.
Basically, you tear color sections out of magazines or old books, arrange three colors you like and then add an accent color. Check out my blog to get the link!
Suppose numbers didn’t exist
What if there wasn’t a specific number on the scale when you stepped on it to see your weight, and instead it said something like, “You’re doing great today,” “Have you had enough fruit today?” or “Remember to laugh at least once today.” What if numbers didn’t exist?
Over and Over Again
Early on in my art career I came across Sean Scully’s work and have been fascinated by him ever since. His career showcases the art of doing one thing over and over.
Are You A Beginner?
Many years ago I joined a class…much to my surprise, I was the worst in the class. Seriously. The other students had taken an online course of Mary’s so they were way ahead of where I was. It was here that I first learned so many things I didn’t know I needed to learn. Being a beginner was one of the best things that could happen for me! The reason may surprise you.
I Challenge You
There are tons and tons of things right around you that you aren’t noticing that could feed your inspiration. And once you find one thing, more and more will come because you are NOTICING and OBSERVING.
Unexpected Finds
Yesterday I was browsing the small section of art books in the Bainbridge Island library and I pulled two of them out to look through.
One is titled This is Pollack. It’s a small book and I’ve never seen it before. It’s short, which I love because I want to skim things sometimes and this is perfect. What happened next was surprising.
Daily rituals. What are yours?
Each of us has a ritual that we do first thing in the morning…over and over again…day in, day out.
I’m fascinated by how each one of us has a different daily ritual or routine when it comes to approaching our creative process. Let’s talk more about that!
Why are there so many ice cream flavors?
Why are there SO many different flavors of ice cream? Because everyone has different tastes.

Never Underestimate Stripes! Some great artists devote their entire careers to them.
It Changed the Way I Think
As artists we make millions of decisions on each painting. Whew, it can be exhausting.
Relationships Between Artists
A letter from Vincent Van Gogh to Paul Gauguin offers some surprising insights and, yes, some context for that ear.
Color Harmony Using the Mother Color
There are multiple ways to achieve color harmony in your painting, but my favorite way is using the mother color.
What is affordable art?
“Affordable” art is a relative term. While $100 might be too much for a beginner collector, $10,000 is too cheap to some seasoned collectors.

OK, Let's Be Honest
Thinking about the coming year and “new beginnings,” one of the things on my to-do list is going to be going back over the classes or courses I want to do and FINISH them.
These are a few of my favorite things
I thought I would share some of my favorite projects that I’ve completed over the past few weeks of December!
